Trend Alert: Stacking Rings

Fall is coming, and you know what that means, it’s time to layer – your jewelry, that is. Stackable rings are one of the hottest trends in jewelry right now, with photos of delicate columns of rings filling up Instagram feeds everywhere. Popular fashion sites like Bustle and InStyle have commented on the prevalence of these stacks of bands, and even Forbes has mentioned the trend.

While we love slender, subtle metal stacking rings, we are of course partial to those featuring gemstones, especially moissanite. Adding some sparkle to your stacks gives the look of a little something extra. Listed below are some of our favorite stacking rings, and in addition, we also offer a few handy tips on how to fashionably wear this stylish trend.

Mix those metals

Silver, rose gold, yellow, gold, palladium…all of them can be worn at once when stacking rings! In fact, we’d recommend it, as it adds more interest to the overall look. You can stack only gold pieces on one finger, and only silver on another, or mix and match on a single digit. We love these flirty moissanite stackers from Porter Gulch, especially the one in rose gold.

Try hot hues

Add some color to your stacks with gems like sapphire, topaz, tourmaline, garnet, citrine, and opal. Colored gems look great when stacked with colorless options like moissanite, as in the set below from Andrea Bonelli Jewelry. They also provide contrast when paired with plain metal bands.

Add some texture

This is particularly important if you’re stacking rings made of the same metal. A change of texture, whether it be hammered, brushed, matte, or polished, can keep your ring ensemble from looking too homogenous. We’re fans of this set of four hammered sterling silver stackers from Madelynn Cassin of onegarnetgirl.

Don’t fear the sparkle

When you’re wearing a bunch of rings at once, you should be wary of overdoing it; however, that doesn’t mean you have to forgo all sparkle.  A slender band studded with a few gems, either flush set (as in the Talaya ring) or pavé set (like the Stacker ring), can look amazing when combined in a stack with other styles, provided you aren’t wearing more than two or more of them at once.

Keep it delicate

Wearing a lot of rings at once can get clunky, very quickly. We recommend choosing slender bands and subtle gemstones – nothing too large or overly dominating. This modern, quirky band from GraniteArete is a perfect stacker that can go with any ring ensemble without being overpowering.

Add a funky piece

The ring stacking trend is meant to be fun, so why not add some whimsy? An unusual band, a unique gemstone cut, a pop of color – nothing is off-limits!
